Overview

Job . APAC-Kansas, Inc., Shears Construction, is a multi-million dollar heavy highway contractor established in 1874, with multiple asphalt plants, ready mix plants, rock quarries and sand operations in Kansas. We work on paving, utility, dirt-grading and concrete flat work for public, private and commercial projects. This opportunity is for a Concrete Laborer, with a base pay of $18-20/hr depending on experience, and potential for long-term growth.

Responsibilities
  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment at all times.
  • Follow safety policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations, using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Perform physical tasks including stretching, bending, lifting, squatting, pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Shovel dirt, stone, and asphalt; handle materials, tools, and supplies to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Assist with traffic control, cleaning, equipment maintenance, and other site duties as needed.
  • Collaborate with managers and co-workers, actively contributing to a positive team environment.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned, showing flexibility and initiative.
What We’re Looking For (Qualifications)
  • A commitment to safety, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening, criminal background check, and “Fit for Work” physical.
  • Valid documentation for I-9 Immigration requirements.
  • Professional, courteous attitude toward colleagues and the public.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality at designated job sites.
  • Willingness to travel, work away from home, and adapt to varying schedules (including nights, weekends, and overtime).
  • Comfortable working outdoors in extreme temperatures.
  • Minimum age of 18 years due to safety-sensitive requirements.
  • Team player with a proactive approach to assisting others and taking on new challenges.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in construction or related fields preferred—but motivated individuals eager to learn and grow are welcome.

Work Environment Requirements
  • Frequently required to climb, balance, and perform tasks involving physical agility.
  • Regularly sit, climb, and use hand signals or equipment; occasionally stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, stoop, crouch, or reach above shoulder height.
  • Lift and move objects weighing up to 25-50 lbs as needed.
  • Work primarily outdoors, often in extreme weather and environmental conditions.
  • Exposure to jobsite hazards such as moving machinery, high places, airborne particles, and loud environments.
  • Must have specific vision abilities, including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, to operate equipment safely.
  • Reasonable accommodations provided as necessary to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
