The Construction Site Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient and high-quality execution of multiple assigned residential construction projects in alignment with the mission and goals of Wichita Habitat for Humanity. This role leads daily field operations, coordinates volunteers and subcontractors, manages construction activities through various phases of the build process, and ensures homes are completed in accordance with Habitat standards, building codes, project schedules and budget expectations.
The construction site supervisor serves as the on-site leader responsible for executing the construction plan, making day-to-day field decisions, and maintaining progress, quality and safety. This role supports homeowner education, volunteer engagement and cross-department collaboration while allowing the general contractor to focus on strategic planning, forecasting and construction management.
Responsibilities:Safety
- Maintain required Habitat for Humanity competent person safety training, CPR, and first aid certifications.
- Ensure all volunteers receive site-specific and task-specific safety training before beginning work.
- Enforce safety protocols on job sites and promptly address unsafe conditions, incidents or violations.
- Participate in the ongoing review and implementation of the construction safety manual.
- Independently manage daily field operations across multiple active construction projects.
- Execute construction plans by coordinating labor, materials, tools, volunteers and subcontractors to maintain project momentum.
- Make routine field decisions related to sequencing, task assignments, workflow and problem-solving.
- Adjust daily work plans as needed to maintain schedule, productivity and quality standards.
- Escalate significant scope changes, structural concerns, safety issues or budget impacts to the general contractor.
- Collaborate with the general contractor to understand project timelines, scopes of work, subcontractor schedules, and volunteer labor needs.
- Execute assigned construction schedules and proactively identify issues that may impact project completion.
- Coordinate subcontractor activities by ensuring work areas are prepared, materials are available, access is provided, and inspections are completed promptly.
- Monitor construction progress and quality throughout all phases of assigned projects.
- Identify and resolve workflow challenges while communicating delays, material shortages, staffing needs, or other issues that may affect progress.
- Monitor Volunteer Hub daily and proactively plan meaningful work activities, tools and materials to maximize volunteer productivity and engagement.
- Provide timely field updates that allow the general contractor to focus on forecasting, resource planning, systems development, and strategic initiatives.
- Lead daily volunteer orientations, including Habitat’s mission, safety information, and daily goals.
- Create a welcoming, inclusive, and productive environment for new team members, volunteers, future homeowners, Ameri Corps members and community partners.
- Assign tasks appropriate to volunteer skill levels and provide hands-on instruction to ensure safety, quality and a positive learning experience.
- Guide and support future homeowners through sweat equity participation while encouraging accountability and ownership.
- Support volunteer leadership development by identifying opportunities for skilled volunteers and crew leaders to expand their skills and responsibilities.
- Mentor Ameri Corps members, interns and new team members by modeling construction best practices and providing feedback.
- Recognize volunteer contributions and seek feedback to continually improve the Habitat build experience.
- Coordinate closely with the construction project coordinator – logistics to ensure materials are ordered in alignment with construction schedules, delivered when needed, and staged appropriately for field use.
