We’re looking for a Part-Time Construction Inspector to join our team at our Wichita location. This individual will assist with a variety of projects from any of our civil engineering service areas:
Land Development, Public Works, Transportation, and Industrial/Energy.
This position operates on a project-by-project schedule with variable hours throughout the year rather than a steady weekly schedule. During active construction periods, work will probably be full-time (30–40+ hours per week over 5–6 days), followed by multi-week or multi-month gaps between projects with minimal to no hours.
Responsibilities:- Perform daily inspections on municipal and civil projects (roadways, utilities, earthwork) to verify compliance with plans, specs, and codes.
- Prepare detailed daily inspection logs (IDRs), including photos, pay quantities, weather conditions, contractor crew sizes, and site progress.
- Communicate daily with contractors, engineers, and clients.
- Perform or observe basic field sampling/testing (concrete slump/air, soil density) and verify proper installation of rebar, aggregate, and bedding.
- Monitor job sites for adherence to traffic control plans (MUTCD), and SWPPP/erosion control rules.
- Measure installed field quantities for contractor pay estimates and maintain accurate as-built records.
- High School Diploma or GED required;
Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Tech or Construction Management preferred. - 2–5 years of civil construction inspection or hands‑on trades experience (roadways, utilities, earthwork).
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering plan sheets, detail drawings, and project specs.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills; comfortable coordinating with field crews and clients.
- Proficient with mobile tablets, PDF tools, and digital daily reporting apps.
- Ability to work part‑time hours based on active contractor schedules and weather windows.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather, walk on uneven terrain, stand for long periods, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I
- OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction Certification
- State DOT or SWPPP Inspector Certification
