Overview

The Recreation Aide 2 is an entry‑level, seasonal or part‑time position responsible for providing exceptional customer service and hands‑on support for recreational activities at Watson Park. The role involves interacting directly with the public, assisting with concessions, coordinating games, and maintaining recreational facilities and equipment. Recreation Aides play a key role in ensuring visitors have a safe, enjoyable, and engaging experience. Assignments vary based on program needs, and duties may include cash handling, basic food preparation, officiating sports activities, and performing light custodial tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Serve customers at concession counter.
  • Receive and disburse cash.
  • Prepare and handle food.
  • Stock concession products.
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance.
  • Supervise children, organize and lead games, and assist with class instruction.
  • Officiate or keep score for sports activities.
  • Perform basic custodial duties.
  • Set up and take down building furnishings and arrangements.
  • Operate a vehicle when required.
  • Other job‑related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Basic arithmetic skills and ability to count money and make change.
  • Proficiency with a computer to access, interpret, and record information.
  • Ability to respond to a steady volume of requests for information and/or service, both in person and over the phone.
  • Ability to lift and carry loads up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to teach students with a wide variety of experience and aptitude.
  • Clear and effective oral communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates, participants, and the public.
  • Valid Kansas Driver’s License may be required.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.
