Job Story
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Wichita State University is seeking applicants for an Assistant Clinical Professor in Audiology. This is a 12-month, benefits-eligible clinical appointment for an audiologist with an AuD or PhD degree.
Housed within the College of Health Professions, the Department offers the BA, MA, AuD, and PhD degrees. Our WSU Evelyn Hendren Cassat Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic provides both speech-language pathology and audiology skilled diagnostic and therapy services, supports the clinical and academic research of 15 full-time faculty, and serves as a hub for interprofessional community outreach for the city of Wichita and beyond. The Cassat Clinic has won multiple awards in the "Audiologist / Hearing Center" category in the Wichita Eagle’s “Best of Wichita” award competition.
We are excited to announce that in 2027, the Department of CSD and the Cassat Clinic will move to the Wichita Biomedical Campus, an approximately 471,000‑square‑foot, $300 million health sciences facility located in the heart of downtown Wichita. The facility is a joint venture by Wichita State University, WSU Tech, and the University of Kansas. The new Cassat Clinic space will house six brand new state-of-the-art sound booths for both clinical and research activities.
The city of Wichita is the largest metropolitan area in Kansas. Wichita has vibrant music, art, and theater offerings, as well as a wide range of sporting venues. The cost of living is affordable and commuting time within the city is reasonable.
Job Summary
To provide skilled audiological services and supervise students in the Doctor of Audiology (AuD) graduate education program. Teach courses in the AuD program (and potentially the undergraduate program) using various instructional deliveries (e.g., face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online). To foster applied learning into the course design and engage with industry and local business community applied projects. To advance knowledge through scholarly activities (e.g., active involvement in committees, student mentorship, recruitment and retention initiative, outreach activities, etc.)

Job Duties
Responsibilities will include supervising students during their clinical rotations in the Evelyn Hendren Cassat Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic (Cassat Clinic) and surrounding Wichita area, and teaching at least two graduate-level AuD courses (one fall, one spring). A willingness to mentor student research (one student per cohort) is desirable. Candidate will be expected to work with students, staff, and clients of all ages and backgrounds.
Faculty Requirements
Doctorate in Audiology (AuD or PhD)
Required License/Certifications/Training:
Must possess or be eligible for licensure in the following License/Certificates:
1) ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology
2) Kansas Professional License-Audiology
3) Kansas Hearing Aid Dispensing License
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to teach courses in audiology, with a commitment to promoting student scholarship in the classroom, clinic, instrumentation labs, and research activities
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers
- Willingness to accommodate a variety of learning styles and strategies in instructional delivery and learning activities, including online and blended learning, flexible teaching methods, and applied learning approaches
- Demonstrated strong, effective communication (both oral and written), organizational, interpersonal, problem solving and counseling skills
- Three or more years clinical experience that includes hearing aid fitting
Ability to remain in a stationary position – Frequent 60-90%; Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators – Frequent 60-90%
