Student Employability Coaches (SECs) form a key part of the Careers Team. They provide one-to-one application and CV feedback to students coming into the Careers Centre. The Careers Centre operates on a drop-in basis. SECs will manage their own drop-in queue giving around 10-15 minutes of feedback to each student. They may also offer bookable callback appointments to students and graduates away from Bath via Microsoft Teams.
SECs may also staff our front desk in the Careers Centre, showing resources, adding students to drop-in queues or booking appointments. You might also be involved in staffing our Careers Fairs or other events.
As part of the role, you will gain Administrator access to our MyFuture system and be trained to add and manage your own drop-in/appointment schedule. You will also book students into other appointments.
In quieter times, there will be opportunities to work on other career-related projects. For example, content and resource creation or creating a workshop session.
Full training and support will be given. You will have a dedicated line manager and regular meetings with other SECs to discuss best practice and share your experiences.
SECs work up to four hours per week during teaching/semester time. Exact shifts will be organised based on your timetable and availability, but you will be expected to work all your shifts during teaching time. Time-off requests during teaching time will be considered on a case-by-case basis but will not generally be permitted in October. Hours are not guaranteed during vacation and revision/assessment periods.
See the 2026/27 academic year chart for a breakdown of semester weeks.
The job is campus-based and in person when the Careers Centre is open. Current opening hours are 10:00 to 16:00.
Eligibility and DatesTo be eligible you must be a current student, graduating no earlier than May 2028 and not on placement during the academic year . You will need to be available for a half-day in-person training session before the end of semester 2 2026 and available to start the role between April and September 2026 (exact start is flexible).
You will also need to be available for the following training dates and start date. Unfortunately, we cannot make any exceptions if you are not available for the training. We may be able to offer an alternative interview date.

Testimonials: “I really enjoy my time working as an SEC. It has given me valuable experience and a variety of insights into various careers. This role has helped me build confidence and interpersonal skills and allowed me to work with a great team of fellow SECs and Careers staff.”
“During my time as a SEC, I have developed my interpersonal communication skills and deepened my understanding of job applications. This has not only allowed me to support others in their application journey but has also given me greater confidence in pursuing my own.
