Job Title: Technology Education Teacher
Position Function: Teaches and facilitates learning for Explorations in Technology 1, 2 and 3, maintaining academic progress, discipline, and records for students at the middle school grade level. Works with parents and students to provide and implement classroom education to meet the needs of all students.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Instructs through lectures, discussions and demonstrations in one or more courses of the Exploration in Technology 1, 2 and 3, covering all competencies associated with these courses
- Meets and maintains training and curriculum requirements of Project Lead the Way (PLTW), the district approved curriculum for Explorations in Technology 2 and 3. Initial PLTW training must be successfully completed prior to the start of the 2015-16 school year
- Emphasizes safe shop practices through safety instruction on equipment, safety tests and documentation of those actions
- Ensures that all equipment is in safe operating condition, contacting the Career and Technical Education office for work order repairs as needed
- Participates in pathway advisory committee meetings coordinated by the Career and Technical Education Office
- Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects, and communicates those objectives to students
- Collaborates and communicates with staff to meet the educational needs of students
- Creates, administers, and grades tests to evaluate student progress
- Establishes and enforces rules and procedures which help to maintain order in the classroom
- Observes, evaluates, and prepares reports on the progress of students. Discusses students’ problems and progress with parents and staff
- Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops
- Prepares classroom instructions to promote students’ success on state assessment exams
- Observes, enforces and is directed by the policies, rules, and regulations adopted by the school district
Additional Duties: Assists with additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Equipment: This position may require the ability to use SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with USD 259’s guidelines for equipment use.
Travel: Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend, twist balance, stoop, climb steps, reach overhead, lift up to 20 pounds
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students
Ability to maintain a classroom of approximately 25 to 28 students
Ability and patience to work interactively with students
Skills in organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to deliver teaching instruction in accordance with improved curriculum and standards
Excellent skills in verbal and written communication
Ability to understand the individual needs of each student
Ability to effectively use Microsoft Outlook and the student information system
Ability to communicate both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information
Ability to communicate effectively with a Supervisor when their discretion is needed
Ability to perform as an effective team player
Ability to plan, organize, make decisions and prioritize work to meet the daily demands of the building
Exhibits a professional manner and a positive attitude
- Uses good judgment to make decisions on recurring assignments
- Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality
- Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance
- Knowledge of company’s mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them
