The primary function of a graduate teaching assistant (GTA) is to assist with instruction. GTAs have the latitude to make independent decisions, use judgment, and exercise discretion when dealing with student matters. Additional Requirements- Grading & Assessment:
Score quizzes, exams, essays, andhomework assignments accurately using provided rubrics and answerkeys. - Course Material Setup:
Help Faculty organize and format syllabuscontent, lecture slides, reading lists, and multimedia resources under faculty direction. - Blackboard Administration:
Help Faculty manage the online courseportal (Blackboard), post announcements, update digital grade books,and upload files. - Student Support Services:
Help Faculty hold non-instructionaloffice hours or virtual help desks to answer student questions regarding grades, logistics, or assignment formatting. - Enrollment Status:
Current active enrollment in a relevant graduatedegree program (Master's) at Wichita State University. - Academic Standing:
Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA (typically 3.0or higher) and good academic standing in the department.
To be eligible for an assistantship, students must be admitted to a degree program in either full or conditional standing. Students admitted on probation or placed on academic probation following admission may be eligible for assistantship awards under certain circumstances.
Physical RequirementsAbility to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
