Job Description

The School of Accountancy in the W. Frank Barton School of Business at Wichita State University invites applications for a nine-month,
tenure-track position as Assistant or Associate Professor of Accounting
, beginning August 8, 2027.

The successful candidate will have an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of accounting education and research at Wichita State University. The position will play an important role in advancing the School of Accountancy, strengthening partnerships with the accounting profession and broader business community, and contributing to the development of innovative academic and applied-learning initiatives that respond to the evolving needs of the accounting profession.

The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and Master of Accountancy (MAcc) programs that prepare students for successful careers in public accounting, industry, government, and nonprofit organizations. The candidate will join a collaborative academic environment committed to excellence in teaching, impactful scholarship, student success, and meaningful engagement with employers and the accounting profession.

Position

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Teaching: Teach two courses per semester (four courses per academic year) in the School of Accountancy at the undergraduate and graduate levels, with courses offered in in-person, hybrid, and online formats. Teaching assignments will be based on the candidate's expertise and program needs and may include courses across a broad range of accounting disciplines. The successful candidate will also contribute to curriculum development, assessment, continuous improvement, and the advising and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Applied Learning and Professional Engagement: Incorporate applied and experiential learning into course design and develop meaningful opportunities for students to engage with the accounting profession and broader business community through applied projects, case studies, employer engagement, internships, professional organizations, and other experiential learning activities.
  • Research: Develop and maintain an active and sustainable research program consistent with AACSB Scholarly Academic (SA) expectations and the requirements for tenure and promotion at the Barton School of Business. The successful candidate will be expected to produce high-quality scholarly research with the potential for publication in respected and leading journals in accounting or closely related fields and to disseminate research through appropriate academic and professional venues.

    Collaborate with faculty colleagues, students, and external partners on scholarly initiatives when appropriate.
  • Service and Engagement: Contribute meaningful service to the School of Accountancy, Barton School of Business, university, profession, and broader community. Service may include participation in committees, accreditation and curriculum assessment, student mentoring, student recruitment and retention initiatives, professional organizations, employer partnerships, advisory activities, community outreach, and other activities that advance the mission of the School and Barton School.
