Long-Term Substitute Teacher
The Long-Term Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining continuity of instruction and supporting student learning during the temporary absence of the classroom teacher. The substitute will implement lessons, help manage the classroom environment, assess student progress, communicate with families and staff as needed, and uphold the school's mission, values, and expectations.
This is a temporary, full-time position for approximately eight (8) weeks beginning as soon as needed. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required background checks and compliance with the school.
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
- Deliver daily instruction according to established curriculum and lesson plans.
- Facilitate engaging learning experiences that support student growth and achievement.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners.
- Monitor student understanding and provide timely feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, assignments, and progress.
- Lead advisory sessions for a group of students, focusing on academic progress, extracurricular and college goals, and daily practices in mindfulness, character development, and executive functioning skills.
- Maintain regular communication with students, families, teachers, and other professionals about student progress and submit progress reports by the due date at the end of each term. Prepare students to participate in student-led parent-teacher conferences.
- Other duties as assigned.
Professional responsibilities include:
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students and school operations.
- Follow all school policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, flexibility, and a commitment to student learning.
- Uphold professional and ethical standards in all interactions within the school community.
- Collaborate with administrators, teachers, support staff, and specialists to ensure student success.
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and classroom updates as directed.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school events as required during the assignment.
Physical requirements include:
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push and pull up to 25 pounds as some regular organizational tasks involve moving desks, chairs, electronics, paperwork and other school supplies and equipment as needed.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time.
- Capability of occasionally moving about inside an office setting to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Ability to proficiently and frequently operate a computer and keyboard as well as other office equipment such as calculators, copy machines, printers, and projectors.
- Consistently practice safe working habits while using school supplies, equipment, and electronics as well as the ability to maintain a safe and hazard-free workstation for yourself and others at the school.
