The Collegiate Enrichment Academy is a school sponsored after school program the offers non-athletic classes for our Early Childhood through second grad students. The CEA classes follow the WCS calendar and observe the same holiday and conference schedule. Our classes are offered for 12 week sessions in the Fall and the Spring semesters.
Position DescriptionThe Piano Assistant Teacher supports Collegiate Enrichment Academy piano instruction for preschool through school-age students. Working under the direction of the lead piano instructor and the CEA Director, you help create an encouraging, structured setting in which students build foundational keyboard skills, musicianship, and a lasting interest in music. This part-time hourly role contributes to high-quality after-school music programming on the Wichita Collegiate campus.
Theprimary responsibilities:
- Assist the lead piano instructor with group or individual piano lessons for children enrolled in Collegiate Enrichment Academy.
- Teach or co-teach assigned piano classes using age-appropriate methods that develop technique, note reading, rhythm, and musical expression.
- Demonstrate correct piano technique and model positive practice habits for beginning and intermediate students.
- Prepare lesson materials, set up instruments and classrooms before class, and restore teaching spaces afterward.
- Observe student progress, offer encouraging feedback, and share observations with the lead instructor.
- Support student check-in, dismissal, and supervision so children are accounted for throughout the class period.
- Maintain a safe, respectful classroom consistent with Wichita Collegiate School standards and CEA procedures.
- Communicate promptly with the CEA Director regarding schedule changes, student needs, or facility issues.
- Participate in session planning, recitals or informal showcases, and program orientation as requested.
- Complete required employment paperwork, training, and background screening before working with students.
High school diploma or equivalent; demonstrated piano proficiency suitable for teaching beginning and intermediate students;
Must be available for after-school hours on the WCS campus during scheduled CEA sessions.
- Have a working knowledge of music fundamentals.
- Have a desire to interact with children in a kind and patient manner.
- Be on time! Work hours include designated time to escort students to begin lessons on time.
- Commitment to inclusive, encouraging instruction that welcomes students of all backgrounds and ability levels.
- Currently studying music or elementary ed.
This is a part-time hourly, on-campus role. Classes typically meet after school during the 13-week fall and spring CEA sessions. Weekly hours vary with enrollment and assigned sections and are generally below 20 hours per week. The primary work location is the piano lab on Wichita Collegiate School campus. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be needed for recitals or program events.
The role involves sitting and standing at the piano, moving among students, and occasional light lifting of music materials. Summer sessions may be available depending on program needs.
