In Southeast Asia, we’re growing fast. Present in the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, and currently adding a strong pipeline of wind and solar projects, the region is a key priority for us. Join a team that’s building a cleaner future—locally and globally.

We are looking for a Grid Code Engineer to be part of the Engineering team in our Makati Office. This role will report to the Engineering Director, and will have a regional scope, which includes mainly Philippines, but also Thailand and Vietnam.

The mission of the Grid Code Engineer is to identify and reduce risks associated with the interconnection of renewable power plants (curtailments, planning and grid code compliance) at the earliest possible stage of project development, especially before the investment decision. Participate actively in the connection process so that energization and COD are secured on time.

Job Description Tasks during investment decision process
  • Development of technical specifications that define the scope of studies necessary to calculate the annual curtailments due to the lack of evacuation capacity in the network (congestion analysis). Participation in the evaluation, hiring and management of power system consultants.
  • Carrying out and/or reviewing congestion analysis of the projects of the Acciona Energía portfolio in South East Asia. Including scenarios development and steady-state studies to evaluate the power evacuation capacity of the bus to which the renewable plant under study will connect. Studies will include power flow analysis (N and N-1) and short-circuit analysis.
  • Analysis of the applicable Grid Codes to raise possible risks or new developments necessary in the technology used.
  • Analysis of the applicable connection process to ensure planned energization and COD dates are achieved. Review of the information provided by TSO during the connection process.
  • Participation in the design of inverters, wind turbines and connection equipment (including reactive power compensation) to ensure grid code compliance and to support in the calculation of the capex of the project.
  • Coordination with the Business Development, Power Marketing, Engineering, Planning and wind/solar Resource departments.
Tasks during project construction
  • Development and negotiation with suppliers of WTGs/inverters, PPC and SCADA specification to comply Grid Code and internal requirements.
  • Review WTGs/inverters and PPC simulation models (PSSE, PSCAD or others) provided by OEMs before submission to consultants or TSOs. This is done developing full wind or solar model and performing internal Due diligence through simulations to demonstrate grid code compliance.
  • Manage and review consultant studies needed to obtain energization approval. Support these studies actively doing studies in house and collaborating with OEM modelling team.
  • Manage and review Grid code tests to obtain COD. Review and amend reports. Support actively with analysis and simulations and close relationship with WTGs/inverter providers.
Required Skills and Competencies
  • Experience doing and reviewing feasibility studies
  • PSSE, Power Factory or PSCAD experience
  • Experience with typical studies done in South East Asia both to energize and obtain COD
