This role is to provide overarching occupational health and safety expertise through the field of Industrial Hygiene to one of Apex’s most valued clients, a national aerospace manufacturer. Over the last 2 decades Apex has worked hand and hand with the national aerospace manufacturer helping them achieve their Occupational Health and Safety, Ergonomic and Safety Engineering goals. The incumbent will serve as a mid‑level Industrial Hygiene contractor at their Wichita, Kansas facility.
This is a full‑time, onsite position. The client has requested 8‑hour days, 5 days a week. The initial role is for 6 months with possible extension based on performance.
The incumbent will execute occupational safety and industrial hygiene projects from start to finish. The role will routinely involve workplace/shop floor industrial hygiene exposure assessments, data management and tracking through the client’s internal database system, providing deliverables based on completed assessments, and industrial hygiene program effectiveness evaluations and continuous improvement support. The incumbent will be an energetic self‑starter with the ability to work independently and produce results within budget and timeframe.
Responsibilitiesas an Industrial Hygienist
- Providing comprehensive occupational safety and industrial hygiene consulting services to clients, including conducting shop floor observations focused on identifying, assessing and risk‑ranking employee exposures to injury or illness, and devising solution options aimed at mitigating injury/illness exposures.
- In collaboration with Apex client relationship managers, coordinating and executing safety and industrial hygiene projects within set organizational procedures and standards.
- In close routine collaboration with the external customer, implementing and executing an agreed‑to service plan. Monitoring and reporting progress on plan completion as directed. Working with numerous internal and external stakeholders in the interest of achieving desired overall project velocity.
- Acting as an advisor to the customer on occupational safety and industrial hygiene issues.
- Providing input to client relationship managers or business development staff on potential new EHS projects.
- Bachelor’s degree required (preferably in a science or engineering field).
- Minimum 3–7 years of hands‑on experience working in the occupational safety and industrial hygiene fields.
- Desirable but not required professional credentials:
Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). - Experience in manufacturing & assembly industries / heavy industry settings a plus. Experience in the aerospace and defense or automotive industry a further plus.
- Possess knowledge of occupational safety and industrial hygiene technical subject matter and how to apply it in real‑life settings. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the occupational safety and industrial hygiene fields.
