T his role is to provide overarching occupational health and safety expertise to one of Apex’s most valued clients, a national aerospace manufacturer. Over the last2decades
Apex has worked hand and hand with the national aerospace manufacturer helping them achieve theiroccupationalhealth andsafety,ergonomic,environmentalandengineering goals.
The incumbent will serve as Senior Level Safety Specialist(CSP preferred) contractor to their Wichita, Kansas facility.
This role will be a full-time, onsite position. The client has requested5days a week/8-hour days, with some days covering shift roll over (9am – 5pm). The current role isslatedfor 6 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance,projectneedsand budget alignment.
The incumbent will executeamajorityoccupational safety projects from start to finish.
This rolewill routinely involve a BLEND of (1) workplace / shop floorsafetyand riskassessmenttasks, (2) employeesafetyprogrameffectivenessevaluations and continuous improvement support.
The incumbent in this safety role will also provide project management functions as needed. Perhaps most importantly, the incumbent will be an energetic self-starter with the ability to work independently and produce results within budget andtimeframe.
As a disclaimer, this role is subject to termination at any time due to potential client finical and or budgetary restrictions. In turn, the role is also subject to extension.
Your Responsibilities as a Sr Safety Specialist- Lead occupational safety consulting projects, conducting exposure assessments and risk evaluations to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses.
- Oversee project planning, execution, and quality assurance in collaboration with Apex client managers.
- Serve as primary safety advisor to clients, driving implementation of service plans and tracking performance metrics.
- Provide expert guidance on regulatory compliance, hazard control strategies, and risk reduction initiatives.
- Develop and deliver safety program audits, training, and corrective action plans aligned with client EHS goals.
- Evaluate workplace controls and recommend engineering, administrative, or PPE-based improvements.
- Interpret OSHA, WISHA, and other regulatory requirements to ensure compliance and proactive risk management.
- Mentor junior staff and provide technical review of reports, safety plans, and field observations.
- Support business development by identifying new EHS opportunities and emerging client needs.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of Apex safety methodologies and client service delivery processes
- Bachelor's degree required – preferably, in a science or engineering field.
- Minimum 10+ years of hands‑on experience required, working in the occupational safety field, a plus if the incumbent has industrial hygiene and ergonomic experience as well.
- Examples of desirable (but not required) professional credentials:
Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP);
Certified Safety Professional (CSP); - Experience in manufacturing & assembly industries / heavy industry settings a plus. Experience in the aerospace and defense or automotive industry a further plus.
- Possess knowledge of occupational safety and industrial hygiene technical subject matter and how to apply it in real‑life settings. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the occupational safety and industrial hygiene fields.
