Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Applications Engineer to act as a technical authority for complex customer solutions involving engineered products and integrated systems. This role requires a high degree of autonomy and serves as a key bridge between customers, sales, engineering, and product teams. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys solving non-standard technical challenges, influencing product direction, and providing advanced support in customer-facing environments.

This position combines deep technical expertise, consultative problem-solving, and leadership through mentorship and collaboration.

Responsibilities

+ Analyze complex customer requirements and recommend technically sound, practical solutions.

+ Serve as the technical lead for strategic and high-value customer engagements.

+ Provide expert guidance on system-level design, feasibility, and trade-offs during the pre- and post-sales process.

+ Deliver advanced troubleshooting support via phone, email, video, and occasional on-site visits.

+ Act as the final escalation point for complex hardware, software, and system integration issues.

+ Support evaluation of returned products and warranty-related technical issues.

+ Troubleshoot multi-component and multi-vendor systems involving control systems, automation platforms, and instrumentation.

+ Lead root-cause analysis efforts and collaborate with internal teams to drive corrective and preventative solutions.

+ Recommend customized or non-standard solutions that balance technical risk, customer needs, and business objectives.

+ Work closely with Sales, Engineering, Quality, and Product teams to support strategic opportunities and long-term product improvement.

+ Provide structured, actionable feedback to inform product roadmaps and design enhancements.

+ Document customer interactions, findings, and solutions using standard business systems.

+ Mentor and support technical team members to elevate overall capability and consistency.

+ Lead or assist with advanced technical training for internal teams and external partners.

+ Develop application notes, diagrams, and technical guidance to reduce recurring support issues and improve customer experience.

+ Identify documentation gaps and proactively create or improve reference materials.

+ Represent the organization as a technical resource during customer meetings, industry events, and occasional trade shows.

+ Maintain a professional, customer-focused presence aligned with company values and ethical standards.

Essential Skills

+ Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.

+ 7+ years of experience in applications engineering, systems engineering, or technical support roles for engineered or industrial products.

+ Demonstrated experience serving as a technical lead or escalation resource in customer-facing environments.

+ Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.

+ Experience documenting activities and customer interactions using CRM, ERP, or similar business tools.

+ Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with the ability to learn complex product platforms.

+ Excellent time-management skills and ability to manage shifting priorities independently.

+ Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and follow-through.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ Master's degree in Engineering or a related field.

+ Experience developing and delivering technical training to varied audiences.

+ Experience in supporting configurable or integrated technical solutions.

Work Environment

This is a primarily onsite role with exposure to office, lab, and light production environments. Expect approximately 10-15% travel for customer visits, training, or industry events. Occasional hosting of customer visits or technical meetings is also required. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 20 lbs as needed, work at a computer for extended periods, and move throughout technical or production environments.

Compliance with safety requirements and wearing required safety equipment when applicable is essential.
