As an EHS Specialist, you will be a key partner to our manufacturing teams, responsible for fostering a proactive safety culture and ensuring environmental compliance. You will provide daily, hands‑on support and guidance, collaborating with employees, contractors, and leadership to identify risks and implement effective EHS solutions in a dynamic industrial setting. Your primary focus will be the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS programs, which includes conducting risk assessments, leading incident investigations, and ensuring all operations align with federal and state regulations (OSHA, EPA) and international standards (ISO 14001/45001).
You will be instrumental in analyzing process changes to prevent negative EHS impacts and driving initiatives that reduce employee risk and enhance environmental performance. Success in this role requires a collaborative and solutions‑oriented mindset. You will develop and deliver EHS training, conduct audits, and manage critical documentation and reporting. This role sits on‑site in Hutchinson, Kansas.
- Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs aligned with regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, DOT) and company standards (e.g., ISO 14001/45001).
- Ensure process changes are evaluated for EHS impact and risks are mitigated before implementation; manage site waste management activities, including hazardous waste characterization, storage, and disposal procedures.
- Prepare and submit required EHS reports and documentation to maintain regulatory compliance.
- Conduct regular EHS audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify and correct hazards. Lead or participate in incident investigations, perform root‑cause analysis, and track corrective and preventive actions to completion. Facilitate Job Safety Analyses (JSA) for new or modified tasks and equipment.
- Develop and deliver EHS training content for employees, contractors, and management on topics such as hazard communication, emergency response, and safe work practices.
- Act as a visible EHS presence on the shop floor, providing daily coaching and mentorship to foster a strong safety culture.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to integrate EHS principles into daily activities and projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of experience in EHS in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Preferred certifications:
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP), OSHA 30‑Hour General Industry, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM). - Knowledge of EHS Regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT), ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 Standards, and Waste Management Principles.
- Technical & analytical skills such as Root Cause Analysis, Risk Assessment, Job Safety Analysis, Incident Investigation, EHS Auditing & Inspection.
- Professional skills including cross‑functional collaboration, training & mentoring, stakeholder engagement, and technical report writing.
