SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Service Manager will act as a resident expert for Ascent and Gemcor equipment installed at customer sites in the greater Seattle area. The expectation is to be the point of contact for service requests and to assist with diagnosis and repair of equipment, identifying when additional help or escalation is required. The role requires periodic travel to customer sites for specialized expertise.

It operates at both strategic and tactical levels, coordinating service projects, enforcing accountability, and maintaining strong customer relationships.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Serve as on‑site technical lead and primary point of contact for service issues at key customer locations.
  • Coordinate directly with customers, suppliers, and other entities to ensure customer requirements are understood and communicated.
  • Diagnose and repair complex industrial control systems (PLCs, CNC controllers, field‑bus networks, drive systems).
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and use multimeter to diagnose circuits.
  • Travel to remote sites to perform preventive maintenance, machine‑controls upgrades, emergency service, and operator training.
  • Follow policy and procedures and maintain safe working practices.
  • Provide input for service bids and quotes.
  • Program automated controls systems.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE
  • BS in Electrical or Electro‑Mechanical Engineering, or technical certificate with 3+ years in industrial automation or equivalent.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lb.
  • Capacity to work more than 8 hours a day or 40 h per week on a second shift and/or weekends.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Problem‑solving and resourcefulness experience.
  • US Person as defined by Export Control compliance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing and assembly.
  • Experience in automation or machine‑tools industry.
  • Familiarity with Siemens automation and controls systems.
  • Ability to learn new automation software.
  • Capability to build automated assemblies.
  • Basic knowledge of machining and automated drill‑and‑fill.
  • Reading mechanical, electrical, pneumatic blueprints.
  • Strategic thinking and tactical execution.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Teamwork and independent work.
  • Professionalism at all times.
  • 5‑10 years Field Service experience or 2‑3 years Controls Engineer experience.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

None.

TRAVEL
  • 15–25% international and domestic.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Typically sits at a computer workstation for extended periods.
  • May access and work in manufacturing plant.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles.
  • Exposure to vibration and caustic chemicals.
  • Moderate noise level.
  • Required travel to other sites during workday.
  • May work weekends.
  • Use of safety footwear, eyewear required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl.
  • Ability to see, speak, hear, touch, feel, reach with hands and arms.
  • Can walk, stand for short periods.
  • Lift and move up to 35 lb; occasionally 50 lb.
