Overview
GAI Consultants is seeking an Assistant Substation CAD Operator 3 to support Substation projects. This position requires working with engineering and other technical subject matter experts in all aspects of electrical substation and protections & controls design services. The successful candidate will perform CAD work of red‑lined engineering markups for various substations and/or protection and control engineering projects as well as project support working under engineering supervision.
The role may be performed at a GAI office, hybrid, or fully remote.
- Opening, revising, plotting, and saving CAD drawing files.
- Assisting in compiling, collating, assembling, and verifying completeness of drawing and project document packages.
- Managing and prioritizing multiple projects simultaneously, and working effectively under deadline pressure.
- Attending project‑specific meetings as required.
- Learning and improving GAI Engineering CAD Standards.
- Effective communication with the project team.
- Assisting CAD technicians and operators in developing their skills.
- Working extended or after‑hours when required.
Minimum Experience: 3+ years of experience in CAD or related field.
Education: Associate Degree from an accredited technical school or equivalent experience.
Technical
Skills:
Knowledge of geospatial relationships, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, plot profiles and user profiles within the CAD package.
Project & Task Management: Responsible for personal task management, adherence to deadlines, and scope.
Management Responsibilities: Provides minimal oversight and mentoring to lower‑level CAD operators; performs work independently with minimal supervision.
Communication: Very good oral and written communication skills; interacts effectively with other staff; able to coach and mentor lower-level CAD staff.
Additional Requirements: Driver's License.
