Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a Long‑term Intern to join our Engineering Department based in Wichita, KS. The intern will support aircraft structural design engineering activities, including design, static analysis and fatigue/damage tolerance analysis. Duties include developing design data sets, supporting modifications or repairs, and performing analyses for metallic or composite components.
Primary Responsibilities- Perform design engineering activities to support production of aircraft or in‑service aircraft.
- Model detail parts, size parts, mature layouts, conduct trade‑study analysis, weight‑reduction activities, certification activity and provide in‑service support.
- Document data to support trade studies for airframe structure.
- Apply classical and numerical (Finite Element) stress analysis methods, solve routine technical problems and follow detailed instructions.
- Communicate issues, solutions and status to supervisors; learn and use engineering tool sets effectively.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications- Currently located and attending school in the Wichita, KS metro area.
- Enrolled in a Bachelor of Science program in Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil, or related Engineering.
- Knowledge of airframe design, static analysis, mechanics of materials, and CAD application.
- Proficiency with MS Office and Google Suite.
- Ability to work in a dynamic team, interpret and follow instructions, read technical procedures, interpret drawings and bills of material, write reports.
- Strong computer skills and interpersonal abilities to work with all personnel levels.
- Fluency in English (verbal and written).
- Minor in Computer Science.
- Previous Airbus engineering experience.
- Experience with Airframe design, MRB, CATIA, Isami, NASTRAN, PATRAN.
Full‑time onsite in Wichita unless otherwise approved. Physical requirements include standard office tasks and occasional lifting up to 30lb (14kg). Personal protective equipment such as safety shoes and glasses may be required.
