Position: Structural Design Engineer II - AA02

SUMMARY

The Structural Design Engineer II supports the design, development, and modification of aircraft structures and components for commercial and/or military aviation programs. This position is responsible for creating detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using Solid Works while ensuring designs meet customer requirements, regulatory standards, manufacturability, and structural integrity. The ideal candidate has previous aviation industry experience and a strong understanding of aircraft modification projects.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS
  • Design aircraft structural components, assemblies, and installation packages using Solid Works.
  • Develop detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Support aircraft modification, repair, and retrofit programs from concept through production.
  • Perform engineering analyses to ensure structural integrity, fit, function, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing, Quality, Program Management, and Customer representatives to support project execution.
  • Review engineering change requests and implement design revisions as required.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and customer discussions.
  • Resolve production and installation issues by providing timely engineering support.
  • Ensure engineering documentation complies with customer specifications, FAA regulations, and company standards.
  • Support prototype builds, testing activities, and first article installations when required.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records, bills of material, and drawing revisions within company systems.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Aircraft structural design principles and engineering practices.
  • Aircraft modification, retrofit, and installation processes.
  • Aerospace manufacturing methods and fabrication techniques.
  • Solid Works 3D CAD modeling and drawing creation (required).
  • GD&T and engineering drawing interpretation.
  • FAA regulations and aerospace industry standards.
  • Materials used in aircraft structural applications, including aluminum, steel, titanium, and composites.
  • Engineering change management and configuration control processes.
  • Microsoft Office applications.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3–6 years of structural design engineering experience.
  • Previous aviation or aerospace industry experience.
  • Proficiency using Solid Works for aircraft structural design.
  • Experience creating engineering drawings and 3D models.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting aircraft modification or STC programs.
  • Familiarity with military and/or commercial aircraft.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing and production environments.
  • Knowledge of FAA certification processes and aerospace quality standards.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Office‑based engineering environment with occasional manufacturing floor exposure.
  • May require occasional travel to customer locations or aircraft modification sites.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and use computer equipment for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to access manufacturing facilities and aircraft as required.
WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Candidate must/may need to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance if required.
  • Successful candidates must be able to secure Program Access approval.
