The Figeac Aero Group has multiple locations across the world. Figeac Aero North America, located in Wichita, Kansas in the heart of the country, is a leading aerospace partner for detailed parts and sub-assemblies with specialization in saturation shot peening, shot peen forming, chemical processing, painting, assembly, non-destructive testing, and machining. At Figeac Aero North America, we place a high value on our employees.

Employees are given the opportunity to be a part of something special while achieving their career goals. We offer competitive compensation as a smaller company in addition to an attractive benefits package for qualified employees.

Position Summary:

The EHS Engineer reduces risk through technical evaluation and engineered controls, applying safety and occupational health principles to anticipate hazards, evaluate exposure and risk, and implement controls aligned with the hierarchy of controls. OSHA's industrial hygiene framework emphasizes anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of workplace factors and highlights engineering controls as primary methods for reducing exposure.

This role partners heavily with Human Resources, Maintenance, and Operations to deliver sustainable risk reduction in areas such as machine safety, ergonomics, noise, chemical exposure controls, and process/equipment change reviews.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Risk assessment & engineered controls

  • Lead/partner on formal risk assessments (JHA, task risk development & assessments) and translate findings into engineered safeguards (guarding, interlocks, ventilation improvements, ergonomic redesign). OSHA emphasizes engineering controls and other control methods to reduce hazards at the source. Coordinates the implementation of the environmental, health & safety program for the location.
  • Support capital projects and equipment purchases with "safety-by-design" reviews; ensure safeguarding and EHS requirements are built into specifications before installation.
  • Drive accountability with managers & employees and ensure adequate resources for program execution. OSHA highlights allocating resources and defining responsibilities as essential program leadership actions.

Occupational health / industrial hygiene

  • Using provided training material, coordinates or conducts all environmental, health and safety training to all employees, monthly or as required.
  • Coordinate and interpret exposure assessments with third-party contractor (noise, airborne contaminants, mists/vapors, metalworking fluids, solvents, dusts), recommending controls using engineering/work practice/administrative control approaches described by OSHA.
  • Work closely with third-party contractor, regarding Industrial Hygiene Monitoring, Drive and improve specific departmental internal OSHA Safety Training onsite (monthly, annually)
  • Coordinate with Contractors/Vendors performing onsite work/maintenance to ensure all safety measures and controls are followed.
  • Support respiratory protection and hearing conservation technical elements (hazard evaluation inputs, control recommendations, and program improvements).

Machine safety & serious injury prevention

  • Partner with Processing & Machining Managers, HR & Maintenance to assess and improve machine safeguarding (Overhead Cranes, CNCs, grinders, drills, deburr, vac-u-blasters, etc.), LOTO energy-control effectiveness, and safeguarding validation.
  • Drive safety assessments for higher-risk programs onsite such as confined space, overhead crane/hoists, paint booths & hex chrome exposures.
  • Drive serious injury/fatality (SIF) prevention efforts through critical control verification.

Incident investigation (technical lead)

  • Lead or co-lead investigations where technical/system design factors are present; develop corrective actions that eliminate/substitute hazards or add effective engineering controls & guides the team effort of root cause correction development; prepares & submits required reporting & collects and submits safety metrics data.
  • OSHA's control hierarchy emphasis supports this "design-out risk" approach.
  • Sponsor/lead safety committees and employee engagement mechanisms.
  • First POC for all safety incidents & accidents that require possible medical attention

Standards, documentation, and auditing

  • Develop/upgrade technical procedures and standards (machine safety, ventilation, ergonomic assessment process, contractor control requirements for higher-risk work).
  • Lead & support internal audits/inspections program with a focus on control effectiveness, not just compliance evidence and ensure corrective actions are prioritized, resourced, and closed.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering or Industrial Hygiene, or related technical field
  • 3+ years safety/occupational health experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated experience implementing engineering controls and/or leading technical risk assessments
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA general industry…
