Job Overview

Municipal Court Bailiff will maintain courtroom order, support judicial operations, and ensure the secure and respectful treatment of all individuals passing through the court system. This role is essential to the daily operation of the Municipal Court and works closely with judges, court staff, and law enforcement.
Employees within the department or division shall be given first consideration. Posting may close at any time.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain order in the courts under the judge's direction.
- Run paperwork from courtrooms to the Probation Office.
- Assist in transporting individuals committed out of Municipal Court to jail.
- Assist in staging prisoners serving in the Sedgwick County jail for Municipal Court video court arraignments.
- Fingerprint and photograph A and B misdemeanor offenders.
- Complete KBI (Kansas Bureau of Investigations) information on fingerprint cards.
- Assist in completing arrest reports and booking on individuals committed to jail out of Municipal Court.
- Conduct alcohol tests on individuals appearing in the Municipal Court and record test results.
- Conduct urinalysis tests on individuals appearing in the Municipal Court.
- Search and inventory property of individuals committed to jail.
- May testify in court as a witness.

- Working knowledge of the principles and practices of law enforcement.
- Some knowledge of standard computer keyboard configurations and ability to access, interpret, and record information using a video display terminal and electronic keyboard.
- Ability to subdue a violent and/or uncooperative person by methods requiring physical force.
- Ability to drag or carry an average adult person, about 160 pounds, into the holding cell of a van.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other Departments, and the public.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.
- Ability to receive law enforcement training through the Wichita Police Department Training Center.
- An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
