Phlebotomist II

Description

Position Responsibilities:

Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc. Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required. Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.

Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct. Package specimens for transport. Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen.

Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

* How many draws are required daily? Depends on sites they are covering, busy sites can see about 30 to 50, sites that are not too busy 20-25

* What is the work environment? (Patient service center, doctor's office PSC Locations

* If this is a patient service center, how big is the location? Varies with the PSC locations they are covering

* How long is the worker expected to stand? Most of the day other than breaks and meals

* Are there any specialties? (Pediatric, geriatric) Need to have pedi and geri experience, some clinics they will be covering do have a pedi population

* Will this person work with a team or alone
- Team settings

* Training will be will be at the location they are report to and training can be 1 to 2 weeks depending on how quickly the phleb catches on.

This is a Contract position based out of Wichita, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr.
