Position: Assistant Dean for Graduate Medical Education (GME) and Continuous Medical Education (CME)

Job Description

The Assistant/Associate Dean Graduate Medical Education (GME) provides strategic leadership for the development, oversight, support and evaluation of graduate medical education programs sponsored by or working cooperatively with the COM. The leader is also responsible for the development, production and evaluation of CME programs provided by the COM. This leader works closely with the Dean, the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) and the Associate Dean for Clinical Education to ensure the highest quality of medical training and education is available to the students and graduates of the COM and medical professionals at all levels.

Specific

Responsibilities Program Development and Oversight
  • Lead the continuous review, assessment, support, innovation, and enhancement of the graduate medical education programs affiliated with the COM to ensure alignment with professional demands, regulatory and legal requirements, and evolving healthcare needs.
  • Participate in assessing and evaluating curricular effectiveness, student and resident performance, and program outcomes. Along with other key leaders, oversee success in both internal assessments and external measurements (board pass rates, certification rates, inservice examination outcomes, etc.).
  • Work with DIO’s and Program Directors to ensure compliance with accreditation and certification requirements for the programs and compliance with all federal and state regulations.
  • Work with the Associate Dean for Clinical Education to evaluate opportunities for GME creation.
  • Work with local leadership in evaluation of potential for and processes to establish new programs of GME.
  • Be knowledgeable of opportunities and lead efforts to secure grant and other funding support for GME programs affiliated with the COM.
  • Provide leadership and support for the evaluation of potential GME program development and certification.
  • Provide leadership and support for program directors, faculty, and residents in all aspects of GME.
Professional Development and Support through CME
  • Work with faculty and health care professionals to evaluate needs among health care professionals and physicians and develop programs that enhance medical knowledge and skills, teaching skills.
  • Provide administrative leadership and support for CME program/curriculum design, logistics required for its delivery and assessment of its outcomes consistent with regulatory and professional demands.
  • Provide an emphasis on the development and delivery of Osteopathic Principles, Practices and Manipulative Medicine programs to support the profession and resident development.
  • Work cooperatively with other CME providers, such as Kansas Osteopathic Society, the AOA, ACOFP, etc. in design and delivery of CME programs.
  • Be knowledgeable of the regulations, rules, requirements and legal requirements for CME in Kansas and surrounding state, the rules and regulations established by Osteopathic and Allopathic boards and organizations for recognition of CME, etc.
  • Foster an environment that supports and recognizes excellence in medical education and teaching.
Strategic Planning and Leadership
  • Serve as a member of the leadership team and contribute to the overall strategic direction of KHSU-Kansas

    COM.
  • Represent KHSU-Kansas

    COM on relevant internal and external committees and organizations related to medical education, CME and GME.
  • Collaborate with other academic leaders, healthcare partners, and stakeholders to advance the KHSU-Kansas

    COM's mission and goals.
Professional Responsibilities

Supports medical education assessment, development, delivery and operations for both clinical and GME partners and affiliates, and the delivery of CME.

Qualification(s)
  • Professional degree, Masters, PhD, M.D. or D.O. plus extensive experience in the organizational regulatory and legislative requirements for establishment and logistical operation of GME programs for the delivery patient care and clinical education, and the experience and knowledge to be the leader for Kansas

    COM efforts in development and delivery of CME programs for physicians and health care professionals.
