Job Description:

Midwest Drywall is seeking a hands-on Human Resources Generalist to support and strengthen our growing, multi-state construction organization. This role is ideal for an HR professional who enjoys balancing day-to-day employee and operational support with process improvement and thrives in a fast-paced, operational, field-driven environment.

The HR Generalist will report directly to the Director of Human Resources and work directly with managers and employees to support key HR functions including employee relations, onboarding, compliance, performance management, and workforce administration. This position plays an important role in maintaining a positive company culture, supporting our teams in both the field and office environments, and ensuring consistent HR practices across the organization.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working in an office-based environment while serving as a trusted resource for supervisors and employees across the organization.

Experience supporting construction, skilled trades, manufacturing, or other field-based work forces is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in all phases of employee life-cycle including but not limited to various screening and testing, onboarding, unemployment, discipline, termination, etc.
  • Aid in the administration of employee benefits and retirement programs including enrollments, changes and employee inquiries
  • Maintain and update personnel and medical files in both electronic and paper formats while maintaining strict confidentiality
  • Consistently track and administer FMLA and other leave programs in accordance with federal, state and local laws and regulations
  • Provide guidance and support to employees and managers on HR-related matters, including leaves of absence, compensation, policies, and employee relations concerns
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of human resources policies, procedures, and practices
  • Support payroll processes by ensuring accurate employee data, timekeeping coordination, and issue resolution
  • Ensure compliance with applicable employment laws, company policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in auditing data and develop action plans for addressing identified issues as needed and required
  • Stay up to date with HR trends and best practices
  • Additional responsibilities as required by management

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Management, or related field preferred and minimum 3+ years of relevant experience
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in lieu of Bachelor’s degree
  • Proficient knowledge and application of HR laws and regulations including but not limited to FMLA, OSHA, Workers’ Compensation, etc.
  • Experience with multi-state/multi-location organizations
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to meet deadlines with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Proficient knowledge and application of Microsoft 365 and other relevant software programs
  • May require limited business travel

Preferred:

  • Experience with in construction, manufacturing or relevant fields
  • Knowledge of ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Program)
