Summary
The Clinical Engineering – IT Technician supports the Clinical Engineering Department’s operations related to production medical equipment, IT systems, and Connected Device Inventory (CDI) projects. The role involves client‑driven integration projects, device network configurations, inventory management, service requests, fault identification, and collaboration with the Client Information Technology Department.
Responsibilities- Medical Device Integration Service and Support (40%)
- Collaborate with clinical leadership, nursing staff, client IT, integration experts, and vendors on design, development, testing, implementation, and support of medical device integration with hospital EMR.
- Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues, facilitate data resending or correction in EMR.
- Design and improve networking environments for clinical systems, including VLANs and firewall rules.
- Assist with mitigation of end‑of‑life and end‑of‑support issues for hardware and software.
- Provide full life‑cycle support for integrated medical equipment.
- Install and manage approved OEM vendor patches.
- Support, monitor, and manage Connected Device Inventory.
- Offer expertise and training on networked and integrated devices (CE CYBER).
Mentor Clinical Engineering associates as needed. - Promote maintenance and repairs on production medical device systems.
- Setup and configure CDI interface hardware; verify data flow on CDI network.
- Respond to CDI trouble calls and provide remote network support.
- Document maintenance, support, and project activities in the Clinical Asset Maintenance and Management System (RSQ).
- Work with vendors on patch implementation per TRIMEDX policies.
- Develop backup, installation, and upgrade processes for medical equipment and related servers.
- Test solutions with Client IT before production deployment.
- Evaluate incoming equipment and document configurations.
- Train associates on reintroducing integrated equipment.
- Track and ensure timely software upgrades.
- Provide support for non‑networked devices as needed.
- Function as a System Administrator with Client IT for server‑based medical equipment.
- Project and Program Support (25%)
- Assist with new construction, renovation, and integration projects ensuring interoperability.
- Inventory, plan, maintain, and manage LAN/WAN‑based and integrated medical equipment network devices.
- Collaborate with the enterprise CE CYBER program.
- Maintain Connected Device Inventory data in RSQ.
- Act as project management representative for networked equipment implementations.
- Prepare project timelines, milestones, and documentation.
- Coordinate with vendors and staff for scheduling and adherence to timelines.
- Forecast changes and communicate issues to Client and Clinical Engineering management.
- Develop service documentation, data maps, network diagrams, and instructional manuals.
- Provide technical instruction and training as required.
- Assist in writing downtime plans for major systems under Clinical Engineering ownership.
- Team Work & Customer Satisfaction (25%)
- Create an innovative environment, remove roadblocks, and encourage collaboration between Clinical Engineering and IT services.
- Deliver high customer satisfaction and maintain communication on status, risks, and best practices.
- Champion integration projects and inform management of emergent situations.
- Drive operational and technical improvements, contributing to policies and procedures.
- Participate in change management, downtime, and disaster recovery planning.
- Implement quality‑of‑life improvements for Clinical Engineering‑supported systems.
- Represent Clinical Engineering in incident management and security review meetings.
- Travel (10%)
- Travel to other Client sites or TRIMEDX locations as needed for support, training, installations, and expansions.
- Operational knowledge of medical device technology, networking, and communication protocols used in healthcare.
- Experience with maintenance and repair of medical equipment and systems.
- Strong understanding of electronics, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, regulatory guidelines, and biomedical principles.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and security industry standards; serve as a resource for ePHI queries.
