The Information Technology Intern will support various divisions within the City of Wichita IT Department through a rotational internship, gaining hands‑on experience across Service Desk, Application Development, Application Support, Business Relationship Management, GIS, Data Science, Operations, Network, SCADA, and IT Security.
This is an educational internship requiring active enrollment in a higher education program throughout the duration of employment. The internship will be on a yearly basis for up to 2 years and will require a background check and fingerprinting.

Responsibilities- First‑tier technical support for end users (Service Desk) – troubleshooting hardware, software, and network access; logging and tracking support tickets.
- Assist in coding, testing, and debugging software; participate in agile development cycles, sprint reviews, documentation, and QA (Application Development).
- Learn application functionality, respond to and resolve support tickets, and contribute to training guides (Application Support).
- Collaborate with departments to gather business needs, perform requirement analysis, scope projects, and evaluate performance metrics of IT solutions (Business Relationship Management).
- Collect, analyze, and manage geospatial data, support mapping and visualization, and maintain GIS layers and databases (GIS).
- Analyze datasets using SQL, Python, or Excel; create dashboards, reports, and assist in statistical and predictive modeling (Data Science).
- Learn IT operations including system and server monitoring, asset management, patching, system administration, and ITIL-based workflows (Operations).
- Configure and maintain network infrastructure; monitor switches, routers, and firewalls; document performance (Network Group).
- Assist in troubleshooting and maintaining SCADA components, learning security and compliance practices for critical infrastructure (SCADA).
- Assist with cybersecurity monitoring and incident response; perform vulnerability scanning and remediation tracking; contribute to security policies and awareness; audit user permissions and software compliance; apply security patches and updates (IT Security).
- Must be enrolled in a higher education program and be able to provide a current enrollment schedule each semester.
