This is an administrative and managerial position with direct responsibilities for the maintenance of all Airport Authority owned structural, mechanical, electrical and electrical distribution, roofing, and related facilities and systems. Duties include directing, managing and overseeing the Airport Buildings and Utilities Maintenance Division. Considerable independence is exercised in all phases of work. Direction is received from the Assistant Director of Airports.

Work is directed and reviewed through the establishment of goals, and subsequent evaluation of progress toward goal attainment.

  • Establishes performance standards, and evaluates subordinate staff.
  • Monitors and oversees compliance with City, department and division policies and procedures.
  • Establishes work priorities, goals, objectives and schedules of the division.
  • Prepares and administers annual operating budget for division, and maintains fiscal/budgetary compliance within budget limits.
  • Communicates with tenants, operators, airlines, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT), and other airport divisions regarding routine scheduled, non-routine, or emergency systems maintenance.
  • Manages and oversees facility custodial services.
  • Manages and oversees maintenance of facility electrical and electrical distribution systems.
  • Manages and oversees airfield electrical distribution, controls, and end-devices systems.
  • Manages and oversees maintenance, and in some cases replacement, of facility structures and mechanical systems.
  • Manages and oversees maintenance and replacement of facility roofs.
  • Manages and oversees land side/street side snow and ice control operations.
  • Responsible for soliciting/procurement, management and oversight of vendor/contractor cleaning, repair, technical support, capital replacement, remodel and refurbish services as required.
  • Prepares written and electronic reports and correspondence.
  • Attends pre-construction and construction safety meetings.
  • Responsible for developing, monitoring and maintaining asset condition inventory reports on facilities and equipment, making recommendations for repair, refurbishment, or capital replacement of assets.
  • Responsible to implement and maintain initial and recurrent technical and occupational safety programs and procedures.

  • Knowledge of modern methods, techniques, and equipment used in facilities maintenance.
  • Knowledge of building systems, roofs and structures.
  • Effectively plan, organize and initiate projects and programs.
  • Effectively plan, organize, and supervise the work of others.
  • Read and interpret building structures, mechanical and electrical blueprints.
  • Learn and apply technical policies, standards, and regulations
  • Make independent decisions to interpret and apply government regulations, policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Use a computer to access, interpret, and record information.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively using company radio, and VHF aeronautical radio.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Walk on improved or unimproved surfaces up to one mile
  • Climb up and down stairs, ladders and other inclined surfaces, bend and kneel.
  • Lift and carry up to 10 lbs. frequently, and 25 lbs. occasionally.
  • Work under sound conditions of up to 100 decibels with ear protection.
  • Distinguish colors and brightness accurately during day and night conditions.
  • Tolerate airborne environmental nuisances associated with the maintenance and repair of systems common to commercial facilities.
  • Tolerate a work environment that may include jet engine exhaust fumes, inclement weather and windy conditions.
  • Ability and willingness to work extended hours and holidays during times of critical need.
  • Pass required federal security background investigation required by the DHS/Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to acquire and maintain airport security identification and access control media
