The Shipping & Receiving Clerk is responsible for the shipment of finished goods, receiving incoming materials and supplies, and ensuring inventory accuracy throughout the warehouse and production areas. This role plays a critical part in maintaining efficient shipping operations, accurate documentation, and safe material handling procedures.
The following duties are representative of the Shipping & Receiving Clerk position and may change based on operational needs:
- Load and unload materials from delivery trucks safely and efficiently
- Prepare outgoing shipments according to customer specifications and delivery schedules
- Create and maintain packing lists and shipping documentation
- Measure incoming raw materials and verify gauges using precision tools such as micrometers and calipers
- Record measurement and inventory data accurately within the computer system
- Generate and apply identification tags to materials
- Pull and stage materials according to bill-of-lading requirements
- Perform dock audits to verify correct shipments prior to dispatch
- Verify carrier identification and obtain required shipping signatures
- Operate forklifts/Hi-Lo equipment to transport materials and skids throughout the facility
- Operate overhead cranes safely to move materials through production and packaging areas
- Utilize precision measuring tools including tape measures, micrometers, nibblers, and calipers
- Monitor and maintain shipping supply inventory
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Follow all company safety regulations, quality standards, and operational procedures
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic computer proficiency
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Good organizational, problem-solving, and time-management abilities
- Ability to read measurements and perform basic calculations accurately
- Ability to work independently and follow direction effectively
- Strong work ethic with a dependable and proactive attitude
- Ability to maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, vendors, and customers
- One or more years of warehouse shipping and receiving experience
- Experience operating forklifts or overhead cranes preferred
- Familiarity with inventory management systems and shipping documentation
Physical demands may include:
- Standing, sitting, bending, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and balancing
- Frequent use of hands and fingers
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance or lifting devices when necessary
- Ability to push or pull up to 50 pounds with assistance if needed
- Close vision and attention to detail for measurements and tagging
- Industrial warehouse/manufacturing environment
- Frequent exposure to moving machinery, sharp tools, noise, heat, and humidity
- Continuous use of computers and inventory systems throughout the workday
- Frequent visual and auditory attention required for accuracy and safety
