Deburr Technician
Deburr Technicians are responsible for removing small imperfections (burrs) from machined metal parts, ensuring that parts meet customer and industry specifications.
Essential Functions- Selects the type of finish specified per work instruction to determine the amount of metal to be removed, and examines the part for the acceptability of the finish.
- Operates grinders and similar powered hand tools to remove burrs and blend or polish surfaces to correct minor machining errors; uses carbide burr tools to remove excess material from parts without damaging them.
- Performs blending of metals including steel, aluminum, magnesium, and titanium; creates radius on areas of parts by hand.
- Performs work in compliance with prints and written specifications, selecting appropriate methods and tools.
- Inspects equipment daily for damage, reports issues to supervision, and may enter work orders or communicate with maintenance personnel; inspects and replaces worn belts and grinding wheels; performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs on tools and equipment.
- May operate tumblers, loading and unloading tumbler hopper as needed.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area and ensures others do the same.
- Follows directions consistently and accepts responsibility for actions and work product.
- Complies with applicable manufacturing processes, work procedures, and supervisor instructions.
- Adheres to safety guidelines and procedures; identifies hazards and collaborates with leadership to minimize them.
- Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Regular attendance on‑site at the workplace is required.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent (preferred).
- A minimum of one (1) year experience in a production or manufacturing role requiring the use of hand tools and material‑handling equipment (preferred). Recent vocational training in a metal‑working or technical role may be considered in lieu of work experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Experience reading and accurately interpreting shop blueprints, technical drawings, and customer specifications.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments including micrometers and calipers (preferred).
- Experience using powered electric and/or pneumatic hand tools such as grinders or sanders (preferred).
- Aerospace manufacturing experience is advantageous.
- Regularly stand and walk throughout the facility; stand for long periods to perform job duties.
- Regularly lift, carry (short distances), and push/pull up to 50 pounds using peer assistance or material‑handling equipment.
- Occasionally reach overhead or reach out or down to perform duties; occasionally bend, crawl, stoop, squat, or kneel.
- Frequently use hand or fingers to manually inspect parts and operate tools and controls.
- Visual acuity required to interpret readings on gauges and measuring devices.
- Excessive noise, requiring hearing protection.
- Exposure to dust, smoke, mist, fumes, and vapors (regularly).
- Extreme temperatures (occasionally).
- Hazardous equipment including forklifts, hand tools, cranes, and other machine‑shop equipment (regularly).
Use of personal protective equipment such as hearing protection, eye and hand protection, and safety footwear is required.
