Position: CNC Machinist/ CNC Operator

Job Title:

CNC Machinist

Job Description

This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC machines, with a strong emphasis on Mazak equipment, to produce precision components in a climate-controlled aerospace manufacturing environment. You will interpret blueprints, perform true machining (not just machine operation), and ensure all parts meet exact specifications while maintaining a clean and safe work area.

Responsibilities
  • Study and interpret blueprints, sketches, and sequence of operations to determine machining requirements and setup parameters.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on CNC machines to produce required parts.
  • Calculate and set machine controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth of cut, and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control data according to established guidelines.
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls or programs as needed.
  • Set up and operate machines on trial runs to verify the accuracy of machine settings and programmed control data before full production.
  • Verify that finished work pieces conform to specifications using measuring and inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
  • Perform complete setups and run parts independently, focusing on true machining rather than basic button-pushing or simple operation.
  • Work with Mazak 3–5 axis machining centers and CNC lathes, including Mill-Turn equipment, to produce complex components.
  • Collaborate and confer with production personnel, programmers, and other team members to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Clean machinery regularly and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines at all times while working on the production floor.
Essential Skills
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of recent CNC machining experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machines and machining processes.
  • Hands‑on experience working with Mazak machines.
  • Experience with Mazak 3–5 axis machining, including CNC lathe operations.
  • Mill‑Turn machining background.
  • Ability to perform complete machine setups and run parts independently.
  • Proficiency using measuring and inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures consistently.
Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with 4 and 5 axis CNC machining (3 axis experience considered).
  • Experience with Mazatrol controls, especially Mazatrol SmoothX Controls.
  • Familiarity with Fanuc controls.
  • Experience with Haas equipment is beneficial.
  • Working with lathes, mills, and multi‑axis machining centers.
  • Ability to troubleshoot machining issues and collaborate with programmers and production personnel.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality in an aerospace or precision manufacturing environment.
