The Med Surg RN delivers comprehensive, patient‑centered care in medical‑surgical and telemetry units. Responsibilities include assessing patients, monitoring telemetry, administering medications, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and ensuring patient safety and infection control.
Essential Work Functions- Explain procedures and treatments to patients and families.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and document findings.
- Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures and assist physicians.
- Maintain a safe environment for recovery.
- Document patient information in the medical record.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to create and implement care plans.
- Manage multiple patients efficiently and prioritize care.
- Ensure infection control practices are followed.
- Advocate for patients’ needs and preferences.
- Facilitate discharge planning and coordination.
- Perform other duties within scope of practice.
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulatory standards.
- One year of recent Med Surg RN experience.
- Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations.
- Current BLS (AHA/ARC) certification.
- NIHSS certification.
- ACLS (AHA/ARC) certification.
- Other certifications and licenses applicable to the position.
- Critical thinking, service excellence, and strong interpersonal communication.
- Proficiency in English reading, writing, and speaking.
- Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions and PC skills.
- Physical Abilities: Remain stationary, move equipment (50–100 lbs), push, pull, and bend.
