Faculty, Fellows, and Residents from the University of Kansas School of Medicine--Wichita’s Rheumatology Department provide patient care through our clinic. We are dedicated to continuous quality improvement while providing high quality, efficient health care to patients. As a Nurse for the Rheumatology Clinic, you will perform daily patient-centered tasks within scope of practice, assisting providers, providing patient care and ensuring efficient patient flow.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
- Completes insurance forms and paperwork for Rheumatology patients at the direction of the providers.
- Performs general office duties such as answering telephones, prioritizing phone messages, pharmacy calls, and phone triage.
- Orders medical supplies appropriately, maintained in an orderly and accessible fashion to ensure they are in place and available when needed.
- Supervises medication records to make sure they are in compliance with State and Federal regulations and reviewing accuracy of daily logs within clinic.
- Prepares and administers medications as directed by provider.
- Completes prior authorizations for specialty medication approval, and coordinates with the infusion nurse to obtain authorization for IV medications.
- Check charts to ensure all clinical reports (lab, X-Ray, etc.) are in place and call for missing reports.
- Room patients as needed.
- Provide the patient with informed consent for all procedures and research.
- Complete physician orders for tests, injections, etc. as needed.
- Assist physicians with procedures such as joint injections and skin/tissue biopsies.
- Cleans and stocks exam and procedure rooms, sterilize instruments and disposes of contaminated supplies.
- Follows through with requests from providers for assistance.
- Triage calls for the Rheumatology patient, page the physicians and return calls to the patient when necessary.
- Participate in documentation and chronic care/principle care management of Rheumatology patients including oversight and management of a clinical dashboard of patients.
- Participates in clinic process improvement activities and team meetings to ensure efficient operations
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
- Performs other duties as assigned
Certificates & Licenses:
- Kansas Registered Nurse license (LPN or RN)
- IV Certification preferred
Education:Associate degree (two-year college or technical school); BSN preferred
Experience:
- Three to five (3-5) years nursing experience required
- EHR experience preferred (we use eClinicalWorks)
