Salary for this position is $100,000+ (more based on years of applicable experience). There are annual reviews with pay increases based on satisfactory performance.
Job Responsibilities
- Plans, organizes, develops and directs the overall operation of our nursing department in accordance with federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern our community to ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
- Maintains the nursing schedule, coordinates time off and coverage, and serves as a back-up for call-ins or staffing concerns. Approves any and all over-time and obtains prior approval from the Executive Administrator. Meets and exceeds goals for over-time. Calculates the number of direct nursing care to resident ratios each day; meets goals set for PPD ratios. Ensures that the community is fully staffed for all shifts providing the highest quality of resident care.
- Develops, maintains and periodically updates written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing department as well as an ongoing quality assurance program.
- Maintains a reference library of written nursing materials (Regulations, Standards of Practice, Training, etc.) that will assist the nursing department in meeting the day-to-day needs of the residents.
- Makes written and oral reports/recommendations to the Administrator as necessary/required concerning the operation of the nursing department.
- Develops methods for coordination of nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents' total regimen of care.
- Assists in developing and delivering training for nursing department staff as well as all staff in the community.
- Serves as a primary/immediate contact when resident abuse, neglect and/or exploitation is suspected. Works with a team to conduct investigations, maintaining the highest level of confidentiality, and reports findings to the Kansas Department on Aging.
- Oversees the delivery of quality care and services to our residents
- Strives to maintain a safe working environment
- Oversees and works closely with the Infection Preventionist for infection control policies, procedures, and coaching.
- Works closely with the Director of Human Resources when evaluating, disciplining, coaching and educating employees.
- Works closely with the pharmacy, Team Health, and any other vendors that may be included in resident care.
- Serves on, participates in, leads and attends various committees of the community.
- Interviews and selects new nursing department employees.
- Leads and develops staff including nurses, aides, nurse managers, and MDS coordinators. Completes coaching and annual performance reviews for all staff.
- Works with Human Resources on retention planning
- Promotes the physical, personal, and emotional wellbeing of each resident
- Reviews and resolves resident and family complaints and/or grievances, meets with residents and families as needed to assist in ensuring the resident and family are happy with the care provided.
- Routinely conducts rounds throughout all areas of the facility ensuring nursing employees are compliant with policies/regulations and the highest level of resident care is being provided.
- Provides nursing care as necessary.
- Serves as second in command when the Executive Administrator is unavailable.
- Reviews budget weekly to ensure nursing is staying within the budget that is provided
- Keeps abreast of economic conditions/situations, regulations, and nursing standards to ensure the continued ability to provide quality care.
