Title: Sheriff Service Officer – Sheriff‑KPERS

Location: Wichita, KS, US

Department: Courthouse Deputy - KPERS

Pay: $19.73 per hour

Work Schedule: Second Watch 3 pm to 11 pm;
Third Watch 11 pm to 7 am

Job Overview

The Courthouse Police Service Officer is a non‑commissioned law‑enforcement officer who provides safety and security services for the 18th Judicial District courthouses, Sedgwick County physical properties, employees, and citizens.

Responsibilities
  • Perform access control and screening functions for the 18th Judicial District Courthouse: greet and direct the public through metal detectors; instruct on checking property and operating equipment; screen property and citizens physically; be aware of medical conditions requiring hand scans; direct the public to appropriate offices; monitor access control and inspect badges; notify commissioned officers of criminal‑nature circumstances.
  • Complete regular patrols of Sedgwick County properties: conduct thorough interior and exterior patrols; escort persons; issue parking citations; respond to and document service calls including alarms and medical incidents; notify commissioned officers of criminal activity.
  • Coordinate emergency and non‑emergency communications: maintain control center phones, camera systems, and logs; notify personnel of developing situations; coordinate with 911; assist with remote access control to county facilities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Six months experience in law enforcement, security services, customer service, or a related field.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance (driving‑level position).
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least two years in a military, law enforcement, fire, or security related field.
  • Training and certificates related to military, law enforcement, fire, or security topics.
