The Campus Safety Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, visitors, and Provincial House personnel on the Wichita campus of Newman University. This role helps protect people, property, and University assets through proactive patrols, emergency response, incident investigation, and enforcement of University policies. The position primarily works evenings, weekends, holidays, and may be required to support special events and emergency situations.

What You'll Do
  • Maintain a visible security presence through routine foot and vehicle patrols of campus facilities, grounds, parking lots, and other University properties.
  • Respond to emergencies and calls for service, including medical incidents, fire alarms, suspicious activity, accidents, and security concerns.
  • Monitor security technologies such as surveillance cameras, alarms, and access control systems to help ensure campus safety.
  • Document incidents, investigations, and daily activities through accurate reporting and recordkeeping.
  • Assist with campus operations by opening and securing facilities, providing safety escorts, supporting special events, directing traffic, and managing parking and crowd control.
  • Collaborate with students, employees, visitors, local law enforcement, emergency responders, and University departments to address safety concerns and support emergency preparedness efforts.
  • Report safety, security, maintenance, and compliance concerns to appropriate University personnel while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
What We're Looking For
  • High school diploma or GED required; college coursework or degree preferred.
  • Prior experience in security, military service, law enforcement, emergency response, or a related field is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all licenses, certifications, and qualifications required to carry and operate a firearm as part of assigned duties.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to meet University insurability requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide excellent customer service to a diverse campus community.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, exercise sound judgment, and respond effectively during emergencies.
  • Experience preparing accurate reports and maintaining detailed documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, electronic reporting systems, and security-related technology preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and successfully complete all required background screenings.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
