Performance competencies & responsibilities:
Communication
  • Ability to effectively communicate material, tool and personnel needs to supervisor
  • Receive and follow instructions and communicate with co-workers, supervisors and subcontractors
Planning
  • Understand commercial blueprints and project specifications
  • Ability to do necessary takeoffs per the blueprints and project specifications
  • Ensure materials and equipment are procured in a timely manner
Health & Safety expertise
  • Monitor and ensure on-site safety compliance, cleanliness, and job site organization
  • Adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards
  • Complete OSHA 10 Certification
  • Understand and maintain Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) guidelines
  • Understand and maintain Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM)
  • Studies blueprints and project specifications to layout and determine dimensions and materials required
  • Installs framing, drywall, doors and frames, acoustic ceilings, hardware, and cabinets, etc. using materials such as: wood, steel, metal, concrete, plastics, and composites of multiple materials
  • Layout and install window frames, doors, door frames, door hardware, interior and exterior trim using required carpentry tools
  • Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground levels
  • Cut materials into specified measurements, using required carpentry tools
  • Build or repair cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, or other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using required carpentry tools
  • Remove damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace, using required carpentry tools
  • Inspect ceiling or floor tile, wall coverings, siding, glass, or woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures
  • Station necessary materials around jobsite as needed for workflow and ingress and egress
