General Maintenance Technician

The General Maintenance Technician will perform general and routine tasks associated with technical maintenance, physical condition and repair of the college’s equipment and facilities. This second shift position involves maintaining and repairing furniture, fixtures, and building systems to keep buildings operational, safe and appealing.
Qualifications- High school diploma or GED equivalent. (
Note:
Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC.) - Two years broad based general maintenance work including painting, carpentry, door repair, moving, remodels or construction experience.
- Experience with construction practices, knowledge, and use of basic tools and functions.
- Valid Driver’s License with a driving record in good standing.
- Able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Five years general maintenance experience.
- Move furniture, make deliveries, assemble items (bookcases, storage units, desks, etc.), mount items, repair furniture, cabinetry, countertops and other similar work.
- Perform small construction projects such as office additions and remodels, including metal stud framing and sheetrock work.
- Complete general maintenance and other work orders as assigned.
- Maintain facilities including flooring, ceiling, walls, doors, windows, roofing, painting, sealing, etc. to keep buildings operational.
- Assist other General Maintenance mechanics, Trades, Grounds and Housekeeping as needed.
- Keep van/truck and tools organized and in working order, ensuring maintenance as needed.
- Report for calls after hours, weekends and holidays as needed for emergencies and to clear ice and snow from sidewalks, driveways and parking lots.
- Use phone and/or computer to close work orders, send emails, research materials and record daily time worked.
- Participate in safety and training classes to operate equipment that may include tractor, forklift, scissor lift, aerial lift and skid steer.
- Maintain locks, signs, keys, door hardware and building signage and other locksmith duties.
- Maintain adequate inventories of supplies and equipment necessary to maintain facilities.
- Utilize technical tools to access facility systems to aid in troubleshooting.
- Observe all safety measures when working with chemicals, paints, epoxy, etc. and use PPE as required.
- Frequent travel to centers to perform repairs and preventative maintenance duties.
- Complete other tasks and duties as assigned.
- Regular operation and use of computers, phones and other electronic equipment.
- Frequent communication and exchange of accurate information with others.
- Movement around office and campus to attend meetings/classes and access files, machinery or other job-related tools.
- Lift and/or move equipment, tools or paperwork up to 75 pounds.
- Position oneself by reaching, stooping, kneeling or crouching to adjust or collect equipment and/or supplies.
- Required vision: close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasional work near moving mechanical parts, in high or precarious places, outdoors, exposure to fumes or chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
- Encounter low to moderate noise levels in the work environment.
