Fleet & Equipment Maintenance Mechanic

Kansas Electric is seeking a dependable, self-motivated Fleet & Equipment Maintenance Technician to keep our fleet, construction equipment, trailers, shop, and facilities operating safely and efficiently. This position is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting equipment failures, completing repairs, maintaining accurate records, and supporting our field operations by minimizing equipment downtime.

The successful candidate will execute Kansas Electric's established maintenance program while responding quickly to equipment needs and maintaining a safe, organized work environment.

Maintain construction equipment to ensure it is safe, reliable, and job-ready for field operations.

Responsibilities include:

• Perform preventive maintenance on boom lifts, scissor lifts, bucket trucks, derrick trucks, mini excavators, trenchers, skid steers, generators, forklifts, trailers, and other company equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and fuel system issues using hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and service information.
• Complete repairs necessary to safely return equipment to service.
• Perform emergency repairs when equipment failures impact active projects.
• Assemble, install, inspect, and test new equipment before being placed into service.
• Coordinate with the Asset & Logistics Manager when repairs require outside vendors or warranty service.

Maintain company vehicles in accordance with Kansas Electric's preventive maintenance schedule.

Responsibilities include:

• Perform oil changes, fluid services, filter replacements, lubrication, inspections, and other scheduled maintenance.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues on pickups, service vans, trailers, and company trucks.
• Complete minor repairs in-house while coordinating major repairs with the Asset & Logistics Manager.
• Inspect vehicles for safety concerns and report issues requiring additional attention.

Execute Kansas Electric's preventive maintenance program.

Responsibilities include:

• Complete scheduled maintenance activities on time.
• Perform routine inspections to identify equipment concerns before failures occur.
• Verify equipment is safe and ready for field use.
• Document all completed maintenance and inspections.

Support daily shop operations and maintain a clean, safe working environment.

Responsibilities include:

• Maintain an organized and professional maintenance shop.
• Perform minor facility maintenance including light plumbing, electrical repairs, painting, carpentry, and general building upkeep as needed.
• Assist with organizing equipment, storage areas, and maintenance work spaces.

Responsibilities include:

• Record completed repairs, inspections, labor, and parts used.
• Update maintenance records using company software. Safety

  Maintain a safe work environment and ensure equipment meets company safety standards.

  Responsibilities include:

  • Follow all Kansas Electric safety policies and procedures.
  • Verify guards, backup alarms, lighting, warning devices, and safety systems are functioning properly.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Properly inspect tools and equipment before use.
  • Wear required PPE and follow OSHA requirements.
  Qualifications
  • Three (3) years or more of experience maintaining fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, agricultural equipment, construction equipment, or diesel equipment preferred.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience repairing hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and fuel systems.
  • Ability to read service manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical documents.
  • Basic welding and fabrication experience is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills for work orders, maintenance records, and inventory tracking.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • CDL preferred but not required.
  Physical Requirements
  • Frequently lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Stand, kneel, crawl, climb, and work from ladders or elevated platforms.
  • Safely operate company vehicles, forklifts, and shop equipment.
