Warehouse Material Handler
The Warehouse Material Handler is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient movement, storage, and distribution of materials within a warehouse and production environment. This role supports daily operations by receiving, storing, picking, packing, and delivering materials to appropriate locations in a timely manner while maintaining inventory accuracy, production efficiency, and a strong focus on workplace safety.
Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and unload incoming materials and products, verifying quantities and quality against documentation.
- Accurately pick, pack, stage, and transport materials to designated locations within the warehouse and production facility.
- Load and unload trucks, containers, and pallets using manual methods and material handling equipment such as pallet jacks and forklifts.
- Operate warehouse equipment, including sit-down and stand-up forklifts, pallet jacks, and order pickers, in accordance with training and safety procedures.
- Perform cycle counts and manual inventory counts to maintain accurate inventory records and support inventory control processes.
- Enter and update data in inventory and warehouse management systems, using basic computer skills and Microsoft Office Suite for tracking and documentation.
- Label, sort, and store materials according to established procedures, ensuring proper identification and organization of inventory.
- Prepare materials for shipment, including packing, palletizing, and completing necessary shipping and receiving documentation.
- Support production activities by delivering materials to the production floor and assisting with general labor and warehouse production tasks as needed.
- Identify damaged, non-conforming, or missing materials and promptly report issues to supervision for resolution.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by following housekeeping standards and adhering to all safety procedures and personal protective equipment requirements.
- Consistently prioritize safety as the top concern while operating equipment and handling materials in a busy warehouse and production environment.
- Perform other warehouse, shipping and receiving, order picking, and general material handling duties as assigned to support overall operational efficiency.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Minimum of 1+ years of warehouse and production experience in a metals facility or manufacturing-related facility.
- Proven warehouse background with experience in material handling and inventory control.
- Ability to operate forklifts, including sit-down and stand-up models, and other powered industrial trucks, or willingness and ability to obtain certification.
- Hands-on experience with pallet jacks, order picking, loading, and general shipping and receiving activities.
- Basic computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office Suite, for inventory tracking and documentation.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
- Basic math skills and the ability to use a ruler and other measuring tools for accurate material handling and production tasks.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy in inventory, documentation, and material movement.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet production numbers and efficiency goals.
- Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods during a shift, frequently lift, carry, push, or pull materials up to 50 pounds, and perform repetitive motions such as bending and reaching.
- Willingness to work in varying temperatures, with exposure to noise, moving equipment, and typical industrial warehouse conditions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience as a material handler, warehouse associate, or in logistics and production environments.
- Experience in a high-volume warehouse or production facility with strong expectations on production numbers and efficiencies.
- Familiarity with warehouse inventory systems and processes, including cycle counting and inventory control best practices.
