Warehouse Material Handler
The Warehouse Material Handler plays a key role in the safe, accurate, and efficient movement, storage, and distribution of materials within a high-volume warehouse and production facility. You support daily operations by receiving, storing, picking, packing, and delivering materials to the correct locations, while maintaining inventory accuracy and strictly following safety standards. This position involves frequent use of forklifts and other material handling equipment, regular cycle counting, and working with computer systems to track inventory and ensure smooth production flow.
Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and unload incoming materials and products, verifying accuracy and quality against documentation.
- Accurately pick, pack, stage, and transport materials to designated production or shipping locations in a timely manner.
- Load and unload trucks, containers, and pallets using manual methods and material handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks.
- Operate warehouse equipment including sit-down and stand-up forklifts, pallet jacks, and order pickers, once properly trained and certified.
- Perform regular cycle counts and manual inventory counts to maintain accurate inventory records within warehouse systems.
- Enter and update inventory and material movement data in computer systems, including Microsoft Office and warehouse inventory tools.
- Label, sort, and store materials according to established procedures, ensuring proper placement and identification.
- Prepare materials for shipment, including packing, wrapping, labeling, and completing required shipping and receiving documentation.
- Support shipping and receiving functions by checking in materials, organizing outbound loads, and coordinating staging areas.
- Operate saws or similar equipment as needed to cut or prepare materials according to production requirements.
- Use basic math and reading skills, including use of a ruler and measurement tools, to ensure accuracy in material handling and cutting.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by following all safety procedures, housekeeping standards, and 5S practices where applicable.
- Identify damaged, non-conforming, or incorrect materials and promptly report issues to supervision for resolution.
- Follow all safety rules and guidelines, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe operation of equipment at all times.
- Collaborate with team members, production staff, and supervisors to meet production goals, efficiency targets, and customer requirements.
- Perform general labor and other warehouse or material handling duties as assigned to support overall operations.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 1+ years of warehouse and production experience in a metals facility or manufacturing-related environment.
- Hands-on experience with material handling in a warehouse or production setting.
- Forklift operation experience, including sit-down and stand-up forklifts, or strong willingness and ability to obtain certification.
- Warehouse operations, including shipping, receiving, inventory control, and general warehouse production.
- Ability to perform cycle counting and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite and warehouse inventory systems.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic math skills and reading skills, including the ability to use a ruler and perform measurements accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all material handling tasks.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
- Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods during a full shift.
- Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull materials, often up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions safely in a warehouse environment.
- Willingness to work in varying temperatures, around moving equipment, and in an industrial production environment.
- Strong focus on safety and adherence to safety procedures and personal protective equipment requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a metals warehouse or metals production facility.
- Experience in shipping and receiving, including loading and unloading trucks and managing shipping documentation.
- Familiarity with production environments that emphasize high output and efficiency targets.
- Experience using pallet jacks, order pickers, and other powered industrial trucks.
- General labor within warehouse or manufacturing operations.
- Comfort working with saws or cutting equipment for material preparation.
- Forklift or powered industrial truck certification, or the ability to obtain certification after hire.
- Experience with warehouse inventory control processes and systems.
- Ability to adapt to different shifts and departments, including MCO and Shipping roles with standard 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. type…
