The Shipping Lead coordinates and supervises daily shipping activities to ensure efficient, accurate order fulfillment. This role directs shipping staff, maintains shipping schedules, verifies shipment accuracy, and ensures compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and customer requirements. The Shipping Lead is a working lead - combining hands-on shipping work with responsibility for team direction, training, and performance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Lead and supervise daily shipping department operations, assigning tasks and monitoring team productivity.
- Verify orders, packing lists, and shipping documents for accuracy.
- Coordinate carrier pickups and deliveries and monitor shipping schedules to meet customer deadlines.
- Ensure products are packaged and labeled according to company and customer specifications.
- Train and mentor shipping team members on procedures and safety standards.
- Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts and shipment verification.
- Investigate and resolve shipping discrepancies, damaged shipments, and customer complaints.
- Operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and scanners when required.
- Track performance metrics and prepare shipping reports.
- Enforce workplace safety standards and housekeeping requirements, and collaborate with warehouse, inventory, production, and customer service teams.
- Required:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 2-5 years of warehouse or shipping experience.
- Knowledge of shipping systems, inventory management, and warehouse procedures.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees, carriers, and management.
- Computer proficiency.
- Preferred:
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience.
- Experience with ERP, WMS, or shipping software.
- Forklift certification and OSHA safety training.
- Hazmat shipping certification (if applicable).
This position operates in a fast-paced warehouse environment with varying temperatures. The role requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds regularly, and the ability to operate material handling equipment safely.
