Job Description

Teachers will work four 9 hour days, Monday – Thursday. There will be 7 professional development days held on Fridays in the year.

We are creating excelling schools where there is a laser-like focus on the Essential Elements of Instruction and moving each student to the next academic level.

Position Summary

To be an advocate for students with special education needs by creating a flexible elementary school program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for middle school and high school, in accordance with each student’s ability.

Essential Functions
  • Establish effective rapport with students
  • Teach district‑approved curriculum using district‑approved resources
  • Complete Individual Education Plans for each student, according to the needs of the student
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional material and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil
  • Translate lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere
  • Evaluate students’ academic growth, keep appropriate records, and maintain a grade book
  • Identify student needs, make appropriate referrals, and implement strategies for individual education plans
  • Instruct students in citizenship and subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district
  • Remain available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside the instructional day
  • Maintain complete and accurate student records to meet all district and state requirements
  • Plan and coordinate the work of teacher aides, parents and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips
  • Create an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays and exhibits of student work
  • Comply with all rules, regulations and policies of the governing board
  • Other job‑related duties as assigned
Certificates, Licenses and Registration
  • Valid and proper Arizona certification
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification

Skills and Abilities

Required
  • Computer skills – competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and typing
  • Communication skills – ability to read and interpret general documents, write general correspondence, and speak effectively with others
  • Math ability – ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, fractions and decimals
  • Reasoning ability – ability to interpret instructions, apply reason to research, and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance
  • Physical demands – frequent sitting, talking, hearing; occasional standing, walking, reaching; frequent interaction with public and staff; specific vision requires close vision
