JOB CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY
Provides security for the municipal court by patrolling the building grounds and parking lots, operating screening equipment, and monitoring restricted areas and security systems.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThis is an intermediate maintenance and operations stand‑alone classification where a variety of selected semi‑skilled tasks/assignments are performed in order to provide continued training and development within an assigned technical discipline. Demonstrates working knowledge of routine work applications and troubleshooting/diagnosis. Works independently, referring more complex issues to superiors. Assignments require learned skills and a good technical understanding of the basics.
ESSENTIAL DUTIESThe following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the Town’s needs.
- Conducts verbal, physical and security screenings of individuals' health and belongings before entering buildings.
- Performs regular security checks of premises.
- Enforces established rules and regulations.
- Responds to requests for information or assistance to court patrons.
- Collects fine payments and fees.
- Purges case records in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Principles, methods and techniques of providing Court facility safety, security and emergency services;
- Rules and regulations governing the access and use of county buildings;
- Principles and practices of law enforcement and provision of emergency services;
- Local law enforcement jurisdictions;
- Safe and lawful handling and use of department issued firearms and defensive weapons;
- Effective customer service techniques.
- Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing;
- Analyzing situations and information using sound judgment to make decisions and determine appropriate course of action;
- Reacting quickly and calmly in emergencies;
- Diffusing potentially volatile situations;
- Managing situations firmly, professionally, tactfully and impartially;
- Safe and lawful handling and use of department issued defensive weapons;
- Documenting incidents and preparing written incident reports;
- Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and other interested parties sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.
Required Certifications/Licenses- CPR and First Aid Certifications
- Certification in the Use of Non‑Lethal Security Equipment
