Precision Finishing Operator – 1st Shift

Position Summary

Identify manufacturing defects on cores and patch or trim cores to repair defects. Use an air gun with a diamond tool to trim flash, trim the die line, and cut tie bars on all cores.

1st Shift: 7 am – 3 pm.

• Handle a variety of cores with care.
• Follow the Standard Operating Procedure for Finishing and stamp identification on cores.
• Produce quantities within set standards for each part number, identify core defects, and maintain accurate records (routers, CQCS, etc.).
• Apply 100% visual inspection before working on cores.
• Identify negatives on all low‑pressure cores and patch according to procedure.
• Remove die lines and excess Ludox.
• Poke holes per QEI and perform dimensional checks of holes and slots, then apply tac wax.
• Microblast glass rods.
• Correctly complete and disposition blue‑dye cores.
• Identify cracks and voids on all cores and patch according to procedure.
• Use an air gun with a diamond tool and/or hand tools to trim flash, trim the die line, and cut and remove tie bars on all low‑pressure cores.
• Run dip process when needed.
• Maintain accurate records/documentation and eventually enter information into the computer.
• Follow and adhere to all safety procedures.
• Maintain department standards for housekeeping/6S.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

• Perform independently in a self‑directed environment with little supervision.
• Follow instructions, interpret quality specifications and procedures, and analyze problems.
• Work overtime if needed to meet schedules.
• Assist peers to accomplish tasks.

• Basic geometry skills required.
• Operator must be able to comprehend and read procedures.

• Squatting or bending (infrequent).
• Kneeling (infrequent).
• Reaching or twisting (infrequent).
• Sitting in a chair or climbing (infrequent).
• Walking on rough surfaces (occasionally).
• Working near moving machinery (occasionally).
