Role Description

The Mobile Plant Mechanic is a full‑time, on‑site role based in Widnes but needs to be able to travel across the country to sites and be prepared to stay out if needed. Responsible for maintaining and repairing a range of mobile plant and construction equipment. Day‑to‑day tasks include conducting routine inspections, diagnosing faults, performing mechanical and hydraulic repairs, and completing scheduled servicing to minimise downtime on projects.

The role involves responding to breakdowns on site, ensuring all work complies with safety standards and manufacturer guidelines, and keeping accurate maintenance records. The Mobile Plant Mechanic will collaborate with site managers and operators to plan maintenance activities, prioritise urgent repairs, and support efficient operation of plant across multiple construction sites.

Qualifications
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience maintaining and repairing mobile plant, construction machinery, or heavy equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical faults using tools, diagnostic equipment, and technical manuals.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, safe working practices, and compliance with site and industry standards.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with site teams, operators, and supervisors.
  • Good organisational skills, including the ability to manage workloads, prioritise repairs, and maintain accurate service records.
  • Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in plant mechanics, heavy vehicle maintenance, or a related mechanical discipline.
  • Experience working on construction or civil engineering sites is advantageous.
  • Valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites if required.
