Fostering Support Worker (Temporary) ? Based in Wigan

We're currently recruiting a Fostering Support Worker to join a busy, proactive fostering service supporting Kinship Foster Carers and prospective Special Guardians. This role plays a vital part in improving outcomes and life chances for some of our most vulnerable children and young people.

The Role
  • Support Kinship Foster Carers and Special Guardians to a high standard, ensuring children can remain safely within friends and family networks
  • Prioritise safeguarding, stability, and regulatory compliance at all times
  • Work in a child-focused way, always aiming to improve experiences and outcomes
  • Build strong, supportive relationships with carers, colleagues, and partner agencies
  • Contribute to carer assessments, annual reviews, and foster panels
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date written records and reports
  • Attend and contribute to reviews, planning meetings, panels, and case conferences
  • Provide written reports and give evidence in court when required
  • Transport, supervise, and facilitate contact when necessary
  • Escort or accompany children and families to appointments and interviews
  • Work flexibly with other professionals and the local community
  • Ensure all work complies with Fostering Regulations, National Minimum Standards, and relevant guidance

You'll be joining a collaborative team of Social Workers, Support Workers, and partner professionals, all committed to supporting children to live in safe, stable family settings.

Essential Qualifications
  • NNEB
  • BTEC in Nursery Nursing
  • NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education
  • NVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (Children and Young People)
Knowledge & Experience
  • Strong knowledge of equality, diversity, and anti-discriminatory practice
  • Understanding of childcare legislation, including fostering regulations and care planning
  • Knowledge of childcare theory and practical application
  • Experience working with children, young people, and families
  • Confidence in assessment, planning, and report writing
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills
  • IT competence and strong written communication skills
