HGV / Trailer Fitter
We are seeking a skilled and motivated HGV / Trailer Fitter to join a growing engineering and transport support operation. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse fleet of HGVs, trailers, specialist transport equipment, and associated plant machinery, ensuring all vehicles and equipment are maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and compliance.
Based from a fully equipped workshop, you will be part of an experienced team responsible for servicing, repairing, inspecting, and fault‑finding across a varied fleet that supports operations throughout the UK.
This is a hands‑on position suited to an experienced fitter who enjoys working on a range of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on HGVs, trailers, and specialist transport equipment.
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults.
- Conduct trailer inspections, MOT preparations, and safety checks in line with DVSA requirements.
- Perform repairs on braking systems, suspension, axle assemblies, lighting systems, and running gear.
- Maintain and repair ancillary equipment including generators, lighting towers, and small plant machinery.
- Complete all maintenance records and inspection documentation accurately.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures and industry regulations.
- Support breakdown response and emergency repairs when required.
- Assist with fleet compliance, vehicle inspections, and preventative maintenance schedules.
- Proven experience as an HGV Technician, HGV Fitter, Trailer Fitter, Fleet Engineer, or similar role.
- Relevant engineering qualification, apprenticeship, or time‑served experience.
- Strong understanding of HGV and trailer maintenance practices.
- Experience working with braking systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, suspension systems, and vehicle electrics.
- Ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs independently.
- Knowledge of DVSA inspection standards and vehicle compliance requirements.
- Welding and fabrication experience would be advantageous.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe working practices.
- Full UK driving licence (HGV licence advantageous but not essential).
- Positive attitude with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
