Service agreements are flexible, with no long tie‑ins and a maximum contract length of 12 months, supported by year‑round telephone assistance. The team focuses on resolving outages quickly, often restoring systems immediately on‑site.
This is a full‑time, on‑site Fire Alarm Engineer role based in Wigan. The Fire Alarm Engineer will install, commission, test and maintain fire alarm systems in commercial and residential properties, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations. Daily tasks include attending scheduled maintenance visits, carrying out fault‑finding and repairs, completing detailed service reports and supporting system upgrades and modifications. The role involves working closely with customers to explain findings, provide professional advice on system improvements and ensure a high level of service and safety.
The engineer will also participate in out‑of‑hours call‑out rotations as required, supporting GHE’s commitment to responsive and reliable service.
- Strong technical skills in fire alarm system installation, commissioning, testing and fault‑finding.
- Knowledge of relevant fire safety standards and regulations (e.g., BS 5839) and safe working practices.
- Experience with electrical systems, control panels and associated wiring and cabling (not essential).
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and manufacturer documentation.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with clients and colleagues and producing clear service reports.
- Good organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to work independently on‑site.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel within the North West region.
- Relevant industry qualifications or apprenticeships in electrical engineering or fire and security (NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
- Previous experience as a Fire Alarm Engineer or in a closely related fire and security role is highly beneficial.
- Commitment to continuous learning, including manufacturer training and updates in fire safety legislation.
