Salary ranges:

• Public Works Inspector I: $36.67 - $39.49 / Hourly
• Public Works Inspector II
  : $40.43 - $43.53 / Hourly

Salary offerings are based on the City’s Pay Plan and the applicant’s experience and qualifications.

The City of Wildomar is recruiting a Public Works Inspector to support the City’s development and contribute to projects that shape Wildomar’s future. Responsibilities include performing inspections of developer, capital improvements, and permit inspection work related to Public Works and Public Utilities construction projects; learning to interpret plans and specifications to ensure contract compliance; preparing project records and reports; recommending change orders and cost estimates;

and performing related work as required.

• Public Works Inspector I:
  Entry level; expected to become fully knowledgeable of the assigned area and learn to perform the full range of inspection work, with less independent discretion.
• Public Works Inspector II
  :
  Journey level; works independently, exercises judgment and initiative, and has full awareness of operating procedures and policies.
• Flex staffing: may be appointed at either level; progression to II is possible upon meeting qualifications and department requirements.

Receives direct (Inspector I) to general supervision (Inspector II) from a Principal Engineer or Senior Engineer as assigned.

• Inspect a variety of public works and public utilities construction and maintenance projects such as grading and paving, sewers, storm drains, traffic signals, and other city department construction projects on a routine basis.
• Check plans and specifications for conformance to City specifications; determine acceptability of materials; ensure that utilities have been contacted and permits applied for.
• Inspect potable and non‑potable water systems and sanitary sewer systems, including installation, testing, maintenance, and repair.
• Inspect storm water drainage systems and year‑round protections, including compliance with NPDES standards.
• Inspect concrete street improvements, including sidewalks, drive approaches, wheelchair ramps, block walls, and other elements; inspect asphalt concrete street paving and slurry seal coating; ensure correct street sections, checking grades and elevations.
• Observe earthwork grading, slope construction, earthen berms and surface drainage; review soils compaction reports and grading certificates.
• Inspect all aspects of traffic control set‑ups and maintenance for conformance with codes, specifications and safety practices.
• Inspect underground dry utility systems.
• Respond to citizen complaints and requests for information from the general public, developers, contractors and utility representatives.
• Interpret construction plans and specifications; prepare and make recommendations on change orders; confer with City engineering staff on design problems encountered in the field; prepare cost estimates.
• Perform final inspection of construction projects for field acceptance; prepare list of required corrections prior to field acceptance or final bond exoneration; issue certificates of occupancy.
• Review as‑built drawings for public works facilities and utility projects.
• Attend locator meetings with contractors and representatives of various utilities.
• Maintain reports and records.
• Participate in joint inspections of properties with other agencies and City departments.
• Observe and comply with City and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
• Perform related duties as required.
